Many MIUIers might have queries on how to change your registered email id or old mobile number or update new mobile number and so on. I will try my best to provide step by step guidance. Xiaomi takes the security of the members very seriously so every time you login, you will be asked to enter verification SMS that is sent to your registered mobile number.
You have 60 seconds to enter that SMS code or else after 60 seconds you can re-request to send the new verification code. Sometimes due to maintenance or upgradation the server may not respond timely, in that case, wait for a while and try again.
Also, for any changes you make, the system will ask for a verification code. This is how the verification window looks like.
When you receive your verification SMS on your device, this is how it looks like now.
After this, you will see this page.
Look at the top, you will see three sections.
Account Security | Personal | Services
This is Account Security section. In the image itself I have mentioned few things.
From here you can change your mobile number, email id, password, add security questions and also enable 2-Step Verification. In the end, I will share all the screenshots of each category.
After Account Security section, we have Personal section. Here you can Change Avatar/Display Pic add your name, your birthday and your own gender
And the last section Services.
These are the current services Xiaomi provides to their customers and/or members.
Your Mi Account has some elements which are very important
1. Xiaomi ID : (In Number)
Info : This cannot be changed. This ID is automatically generated at the time of your registration.
2. Name : (You can change it)
Info : This name will be displayed in MIUI's built-in apps, Mi Cloud, MiTalk Messenger.
3. Mail : (Your registered email ID, which you can change/update after verification)
Info : This is your email ID to sign-in into MIUI forum or this Xiaomi account. It's also used to reset your password or request for new password in case you have forgotten it.
NOTE : In certain cases it might happen that you may have registered yourself with your mobile number and not Email ID. In this case I strongly suggest you to add (Bind) your email and do not forget to verify it immediately.
4. Phone : (Your current active mobile number. You can change this too after verification).
Info : Your phone number can also be used to sign-in or reset password just like your as email ID.
NOTE : Your mobile number is very important element and should not be ignored. Many Xiaomi/Mi services on your phone are depended on this.
Here too in certain cases it might happen that you may have registered yourself with your Email ID only and not your mobile number. In this case also I strongly suggest you to add (Bind) your mobile number and keep the phone with you while doing this because for security purpose Xiaomi server will send verification code to your mobile number for verification.
5. Password : (From here you can change your password whenever you like)
Note : It's always better that your password should be of at least of 6 to 8 characters long including 1 symbol (@$#%) , 1 Capital alphabet (Upper Case), 1 small alphabets (lower case) and 1 number (2568) all these things can be used in any order.
Importance of Binding Email ID and Mobile Number
It's very important to bind you mobile numberalong with your email ID to your Xiaomi account.
There could be many untapped or unknown reasons/circumstance when you need them.
Most importantly both of them provides good security and support from Xiaomi.
Also, both the information is required for deleting your Old/Inactive/Active account.

While sending them an email please do provide the reason and your basic account information like Account ID except your password initially. Rest do according to the response from the email. Also, the subject of your email should be short and clear to understand.
